Google rolls out Pixel Phone app Call Recording
After announcing in September, Google is now widely rolling out Call Recording on Pixel phones that lack AI-powered Call Notes.
Go to the Phone app > Settings for a new “Call Recording” menu under the Call Assist section. You have to download some “audio files” first, while you’ll also be prompted to set it up during your first call. Google explains how recordings stay on your device.
You will get a Call Assist menu on the calling screen next to Audio Emoji that just has a “Call Recording” button. There’s a brief countdown before the message that notifies everyone on the call that you’re recording.
There’s a red dot next to the call duration up top, while the “Stop” button is in the Call Assist menu.
Afterwards, the Call Recording appears in the Home tab with a microphone icon and M3 Expressive audio player upon expanding.
In Settings, you have a high-level “Turn on Call Recording” switch. Under Manage, you can have recordings automatically delete after 7, 14, or 30 days. “Never” is also an option, while you can “Delete all recordings now.”
There’s an “Automatically record calls with non-contacts” option, as well as “Automatically record calls with these numbers” list.
Call Recording is available on the “Pixel 6 and up with Android 14 and up.” This includes Pixel 9+ that lack AI-powered Call Notes. We’re seeing it with version 198+ of Phone by Google.
Separate from this, the November 2025 Pixel Feature Drop brings Call Notes to Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, and Japan. That adds transcription, summaries, and next steps.
