Firefox Switches to Two-Week Release Cycle Starting September 2026

Mozilla plans to shift Firefox to a two-week release cycle starting in September 2026, according to Mozilla Director Sylvestre Ledru. The company describes this faster update schedule as an experiment and emphasizes that it may alter course if unexpected issues arise.

Firefox 154, set for release on August 18, will be the last version issued on the current monthly schedule. Instead of two weeks later, Firefox 155 is scheduled to arrive on September 1.

The Firefox Release Calendar has been updated to reflect the new schedule. This change affects Firefox users on both desktop and Android platforms.

What Changes With Firefox’s New Two-Week Release Cycle and Why

Under the new schedule:

Firefox 154 will be released on August 18, 2026, marking the final monthly update.
Firefox 155 is scheduled for September 1, 2026, as the first of the new biweekly releases. After that, updates will continue every two weeks.

The revised Firefox Release Calendar shows the new release pattern for all upcoming versions. Mozilla will keep an eye on the transition and make adjustments if any issues arise.

Mozilla mentioned that the faster release schedule will let developers deliver more updates to the browser more often. Ledru also said the release process should become more predictable, with fewer hurdles impacting rollout plans.

Developers aren't being asked to work twice as fast. Features that aren’t ready yet will still get extra attention rather than being pushed out prematurely. The two-week cycle impacts how often stable versions are released, not how fast individual features go through development.
