NASA Approves Modern Smartphones for Space Missions
NASA has allowed astronauts to use modern smartphones during space missions. The new devices will appear on board starting with the Crew-12 and Artemis II flights, and will help crews document work and share materials with Earth.
The agency administrator Jared Isaacman announced this. What advantages does using smartphones bring to astronauts?
According to NASA, the gadgets will enable crews to document everyday tasks in orbit and during Moon missions, as well as quickly transmit photos and videos to family and the public.
Beyond communication, the devices will be used as additional tools for recording scientific experiments and observations.
According to Isaacman, the agency has accelerated the certification of commercial equipment for spaceflight and reviewed a number of outdated procedures.
NASA believes that faster integration of modern technologies will help conduct research more efficiently both in orbit and during future lunar missions.
The agency emphasizes that this is a small but important step toward modernizing space programs and more open communication with people on Earth.
