Apple Expanding Ads in iOS: The Maps App Is Reportedly Next

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman was in a particularly divulgatory mood in his latest "Power On" newsletter, disclosing the possibility of a vapor chamber in the next iPad Pro and the likelihood of an advertisement ingress into the Maps app on the iOS.

To wit, Gurman believes that after Apple introduced advertisements within its App Store, the Maps app on the iOS is now slated for a similar treatment.

The ads would reportedly be similar in nature to those featured in the App Store, consisting mainly of paid placements within search results.

Do note that Apple's iOS ecosystem spans around 1.5 billion iPhones globally. As such, the Cupertino giant's move to start monetizing the various corners of this expansive ecosystem will yield massive windfalls.

Should this trajectory continue, it is likely that paid placements will eventually populate every search-related facet within Apple's iOS ecosystem.

For instance, paid Apple Music users already encounter some ads in the form of a curated list of radio stations and interviews within playlists.

While the move is certain to benefit Apple, it is likely to raise privacy and data safety concerns, especially given the upcoming Apple Intelligence features, which include in-app actions and a more personalized Siri, and a veritable trove of personal data that these services gather.
