Samsung Unveils Open-Ear Galaxy Buds On

Samsung Electronics on October 1 unveiled the "Galaxy Buds On," a clip-style wireless earphone designed to rest lightly over the ear without blocking it. The move comes as demand grows for open-type earphones suitable for outdoor activities like running and hiking.

The Galaxy Buds On differ from traditional wireless earphones by sitting on the outer ear. Users can listen to music while remaining aware of their surroundings, such as car horns or people, making it ideal for outdoor exercise. The design also reduces the stuffiness and discomfort associated with long-term use of in-ear models.

The open-type earphone market has intensified, with competitors like Shaxz, Huawei, and Bose leading the charge. Samsung aims to carve out a share by leveraging integration with Galaxy smartphones and AI features.

To address common open-type weaknesses—such as weak bass and sound leakage—Samsung incorporated the "Twin Boost Speaker" for enhanced low frequencies, automatic volume adjustment based on ambient noise, and "sound leakage reduction" technology.

During calls, the earphones utilize three microphones and a bone conduction-based vibration sensor. The sensor detects subtle vibrations from the jaw and face during speech, isolating the user’s voice from background noise for clearer conversations in noisy outdoor environments.
